My Memory Bear idea was born five years ago, when my beloved nephew, Aaron , died unexpectedly at the age of 22, from an undetected birth defect.
Because I had made stuffed animals for my children and many nieces and nephews through the years, Aaron's parents, my brother and his wife, asked me to make a teddy bear from one of his shirts. I made a 16 inch bear wearing a vest with Aaron's name embroidered on one side. Thus the 'Aaron Bear' was christened. He now goes wherever his family goes.
As the news of Aaron's bear got out, I began to get requests from people in the area who were grieving from the loss of a loved one. When I realized how my bears could comfort people and fulfill a need by helping them hold on to a cherished part of the person who died, I began to make them for anyone who wanted them. I began to call them "Memory Bears".
